I think “Lil'” is supposed to be short for “Little”
DS — yep, but Li’l is the accepted abbreviated form, not Lil’
Is it really true that there is an “accepted” abbreviated form for this? Surely strictly speaking – i.e., following standard apostrophe rule – it should be Li’l’. After all, you are missing the e from the end as well as the ts (or should that be t‘s?!) from the middle.
it should, but it isn’t (the unofficial slogan of english).
