I’ve noticed that it seems to be more acceptable to use an apostrophe in the plural forms of abbreviations. Which saddens me.

that would make it a contraction, meaning that it is correct.

PJ’s is wrong, but I had to look this up — there seems to be agreement that plurals of abbreviations do not use an apostrophe unless the abbreviation contains internal punctuation (among other criteria). So, the plural of PhD is PhDs, and the plural of Ph.D. is Ph.D.’s.

Awww, that poor baby PJ!!! What will he do without his outfit?
This made me laugh. A lot.

The caption made me laugh, too. One source I was checking indicated that lower case abbreviations would call for an apostrophe.
