Anne sent in this sign from Glen Haven, CO:
Unless “The Blue” is the name of their house, that apostrophe is superfluous. I wonder if the sign maker got paid extra for carving that mark?

This one of my BIGGEST pet peeves in apostrophe abuse. It happens so often and I just can’t figure out why!
I am new to your blog and I absolutely love it. It’s great to find like-minds when it comes to punctuation. Have you ever read Eats, Shoots, and Leaves by Lynne Truss? The Panda says, “No!”

This drives me nuts too! I was recently at a fall festival where there were vendors selling their crafty wares. One such vendor was selling carved name signs like this one, and every single one of them had an apostrophe before the “s”!! I wanted to say something but didn’t. ugh!
