SO, DOES VETERANS DAY HAVE A FUCKING APOSTROPHE OR WHAT?: ”

If you’re like me, you’ve spent autumn’s chilly Saturdays sipping wine by the fire and thinking, ‘Where the heck does the apostrophe go in the upcoming Veterans Day, and should there be one at all?’”

Merlot? Syrah? Or perhaps a great Pinot Noir from the Russian River Valley?

Same goes for Grandparents Day I guess. To posses or not to possess – the age-old conundrum.

Simple. Go the Commonwealth way and call it Remembrance Day. Or Armistice Day if you’re old school.

I think it should have an apostrophe! My opinion. There are a good many veterans who would argue the fact the the day DOES in fact belong to them! A day to honor them, yes? Like somebody’s birthday. The day may not BELONG to you, but it is your day to celebrate and be celebrated. If we can’t even say this day belongs to our veterans after all they’ve done for us, then I think we should hang it up!

I agree, I say give all the days apostrophe’s (heehee… that was totally on purpose)

Me thinks the question should be:
“Does obessive compulsive have a hyphen?”

Veterans' Day marks the service of veterans – it's their day, it belongs to them – therefore, an apostrophe is required.

    Similarly:
    Mothers' Day
    Fathers' Day, etc.

(Of course, if we were talking a special day for just one veteran or mother or father, then 's is the required punctuation form.)
